Thank you for visiting my blog! For as long as I can remember, I have loved pop culture. From trashy tabloids to Vh1 marathons to nightly viewings of E! News, I have obsessively consumed everything the entertainment world has to offer from a very young age. As I read countless magazines throughout high school, my mother used to say “I know you’re going to find something useful to do with this someday!” As luck would have it, I did, but it took some time.
After receiving a journalism degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2012, I came out to Los Angeles to pursue my dreams of working in entertainment. With a dismal job market, retail found me instead, then online marketing, then a special niche of online marketing called SEO, which is now my specialty. SEO stands for search engine optimization. In essence, SEO entails using different techniques to modify one’s website to improve search results in Google. Though the journey was a roundabout one, SEO eventually returned me to my hunk of burning love: entertainment.
Throughout my SEO education, I have realized that though I wouldn’t have initially picked this route for my career, SEO ties in perfectly to my love of pop culture. The primary goal of SEO is to increase the popularity of a website. Pop culture is all about the popular topics that strike a chord within our society. The two entities sync up nicely in my current job. I am the SEO Coordinator for E! Online, the website for the E! channel. When I was contacted for this job, it truly felt like the mothership had called me home. All of the hard work and sacrifices during my first 3 years in LA were well worth it. I have always put an unhealthy amount of effort into staying on top of what’s happening in pop culture, obsessively trolling Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and any other news source I can get my hands on. Now, I get paid to do that, among many other responsibilities. With this job, my view on the formula behind top stories has been fine tuned. Every day, I track trending stories in pop culture and learn more about what makes America tick. I want to share my observations with the world.
My entire life, my inner circle has referred to me as a “pop culture expert.” But now, with a lifetime of knowledge backed by a technical skill set, I truly believe that I have a perspective that is worth hearing. So sit back, relax, and enjoy my commentary on the pressing issues of the day! I invite you to comment and share your opinion too, so we can start a dialogue on the life force that drives our world: entertainment. Along the way, I’ll throw in occasional musings on life in general, because we all need to reflect sometimes. Welcome to Pop of Louisa!
*Editors Note: Thank you to all of the people in my life that consistently told me to stop posting pop culture dissertations on Facebook and start a blog instead. You made the magic happen!
